Reconnecting the Rio Grande Valley
The natural environment of the Lower Rio Grande Valley was largely lost due to half a century of intensive agricultural and urban development. What’s left is fragmented into small, unconnected patches of forest — so much so, that many people living here are not aware that they live in one of the most species rich environments in the country. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and local landowners are working together to reconnect these patches to one another, and to the people who live near them.

Produced and screened during the 2011 Nature Photography Summit in McAllen, Texas for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
