Station of the Butterflies
(Bahnhof der Schmetterlinge)

Basel’s old railway yard, built in 1913, was abandoned in 1990 and has since turned into a rare biodiversity hotspot. Now it’s marked for development into a major cargo hub and its future is uncertain. What should become of the old rail yard? Station of the Butterflies explores how a society responds when major industrial interests collide with a threatened natural habitat, and what precedents it sets for future developments across Switzerland.

Visual Consulting

I acted as a visual consultant to advise on the filming of natural history sequences for this documentary and spent a week on location with the crew to film one of the more challenging sequences.
