Couldn’t catch me at the Boekenberg in Spijkenisse last month? Join me for one of the following events:
February 24 — National Geographic Readers Event
I’ll share my photos from Borneo and tell about my experiences in the field. Expedition leader Menno Schilthuizen will tell you about the exciting science behind the expedition, and you can meet other members of the expedition team.
Tickets are €7.50 for National Geographic subscribers and €10.– for everyone else, and include entrance to the museum. Reservation required.
Update: the National Geographic Readers Event is sold out,
but you can still grab a reserve place if you’re fast.
March 2 — PiXperience
On the 2nd of March I’m speaking at PiXperience, a nature photography event that takes place in Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam this year. In 2011 I already had a taste of the nice atmosphere at PiXperience when I was there to give an underwater photography seminar. I’m delighted to be invited back this year for two sessions.
It’s a big honor for me to give one of the general sessions, along with Jan Vermeer and Ruben Smit. I have to admit I’m also pretty excited about the prospect of sharing my photos on the spectacular 9-screen arrangement of the main auditorium that completely engulfs the audience. Quite something, don’t you think? In 45 minutes I will give you a photographer’s perspective of what it’s like to work under the challenging conditions of a fast-paced expedition in the cloud forests of Borneo.
In addition, I’m giving a 30-minute seminar for photographers of all levels on white-background field studio technique. I will cover the use of external flash, how to avoid common pitfalls, and what you need to put together your own field studio, even on a tight budget. I will bring my field studio for a demonstration, and throw in some tips for post-processing as well.
Tickets for PiXperience are €30.– excluding lunch, or €42.50 including lunch. Registration required.
Update: the PiXperience is sold out.
March 3 — Zondagmiddag@HetNatuurhistorisch
On the 3rd of March, I’m speaking at Zondagmiddag@HetNatuurhistorisch, the monthly lecture program of the natural history museum of Rotterdam. Again, I’m speaking about Borneo and sharing my photos, but this time I will focus on the fascinating biology of Mount Kinabalu’s flora and fauna.
Tickets are €7.50 and include coffee or tea and entrance to the museum. Reservation advised.
