An Exhibit is Made

Several hundred works are on display in the main hall alone.
I dropped by the museum on Friday to deliver my photos for the exhibit. It is huge! The exhibit marks the museum’s fifteen years of existence and every past exhibitor has been invited to contribute, so there are well over a hundred participating artists — the biggest exhibit the museum has seen to date. With so much work coming in from so many different places, the floors were literally covered with art. I found it hard to imagine that the exhibit would open to the public the next morning.
When I pass a section of a museum that is closed off for the installation of a new exhibit, I can never resist to lean around the corner for a glimpse. It always seems like such an inspiring process, so I seized the opportunity with both hands and offered a helping hand. Imagine my surprise when a drill was promptly put into my hands!
By the end of the day everything came together; the floors were empty and the walls were full. My work found a very nice spot in the main hall (and I even got to hang it myself). The atmosphere was great and the museum’s staff is a very warm bunch. I feel all the more honored to have my photos on display here.
It may seem like the density of work is a bit too much and I have to admit that not every individual painting may get the attention it deserves, but it’s also definitely a case of the whole being greater than sum of its parts. The diversity of the work is a delight to see and there is plenty to marvel at for everyone, so if you’re in the area be sure to visit the opening on August 6!
